Just WOW! My partner and I passed this little jewel on our way from Shelton to New Haven to do a 45 mile bike ride. Needless to say, we were starving coming back into town. We decided to give it a try and were not disappointed. We really enjoy trying authentic foods from other cultures, but that entails having to ask a few questions. The first thing that struck me was how patient the staff was. They not only did a wonderful job describing some of the dishes, but seemed genuinely happy we chose to eat in instead of grabbing food to-go. It was like we were family. (Note: they do have very limited space inside, but we had no problem getting a table on a Saturday night. There were also a couple of small tables outside.) As for the food? It was fantastic! We ordered Jerk Chicken and Swallow Egusi. (Or is that Egusi Swallow?) The latter gave us our first taste of FuFu and as a Southerner from North Carolina, I was in heaven. It was like eating mashed potatoes with your fingers ... which the owner encouraged us to do. (FuFu is typically made with yuca. I assume this was as well.) The Jerk Chicken came with plantains and a choice of rice dishes. We picked Jollof and let's just say ... I have found my new favorite rice dish. While the Jollof was a "side", the portion was large enough to feed several people. We also had Mixed Meat Pepper Soup (spicy but very tasty) and Spring Rolls. Everything we ordered was not just exceptional in taste, but came in portions so large we have enough food for at least 3 more meals. When we asked for some to-go containers, the young man helping us was meticulous, ensuring there were separate containers for each of the dishes and that they were packaged properly for the short trip home. Definitely one of the most unique and memorable dining experiences we've had. We are digital nomads who have been traveling the US for 7 months, and this experience not only fed our bodies, but our souls as well. Thank you, Heritage Spice! We wish you much success and hope to try your other amazing dishes again someday! PS: The owner left me a sweet reply and I somehow managed to remove it when I tried to add pic’s. I am soooooo sorry, Heritage Spice! Thank you again!

My Friend Kash recommended this restaurant because I complained to him that since I moved to Connecticut, I haven't found a good place to eat Nigeria food. The highlight of my visit was the cleanliness of this restaurant. I’ve ordered jollof rice couple of weeks back which was indubitably delectable and then decided to pay them a visit today with my friend. The food is good and the lady that waited on us was super courteous and polite. I ate egusi soup and ponded yam. In fact the food was so nice that my friend had to request for a takeout for his wife. This restaurant is pretty close to the road and can be easily noticed from a vehicle in normal traffic. It is also family friendly with wheelchair accessible entrance and unisex toilet . #AfricanRestaurant #NigerianRestaurant #Shelton #CT #Restaurant #Connecticut #NigerianRecipe #FamilyFriendly #LocalGuides #OnGoogleMaps

I came here with my dad for lunch to enjoy some traditional jollof, and it did not disappoint! The food was incredibly fresh, bursting with flavor, and served promptly. The jerk chicken, in particular, was absolutely to die for—perfectly seasoned, tender, and delicious. The service was outstanding, and Demi was so sweet and helpful, making our experience even better. If you’re looking for authentic, flavorful food with great service, I highly recommend this place! We’ll definitely be coming back.

I had the fried/stew fish with jollof rice, and it was so delicious. Every bite was overflowing with flavor, and the fish was just falling off the bone. The portions were pretty big, too. It's a cute spot, beautiful and simple decorations. One thing I really liked was that as soon as we walked in, we could smell incense burning, which was pretty nostalgic for me. Created a very soothing atmosphere.

Heritage Spice is a small clean restaurant serving delicious food. We tried the Egusi with Fufu and the Oxtail with Jollof rice. We couldn't wait to dig in. The oxtail was tender and spicy. The jollof rice was flavorful. The egusi was sweet and spicy. The fufu was soft. The restaurant itself is very small with about 5 tables. It is very clean and decorated nicely. It was a little hot inside, it seems the air conditioning wasn't working that well when we went. Also it did take a little long to get the food but I think that's a good thing, means the food is fresh. There is street parking and municipal parking nearby. Overall great experience with trying Nigerian food for the first time. THANK YOU.
